1984

A LOVE STORY

The dream began at Mass on a frigid Sunday and was later upheld by a wedding, a passionately desired and loved son, and a castle with 46 showcase windows, illuminated even at night, where the most appealing names in international fashion are hosted.

It was 1984: in Dobbiaco, a village in South Tyrol at an elevation of 1200 meters where Daniela Olivieri, a young manager from Verona, loved to spend the Christmas holidays and practice cross-country skiing. It was her first day of vacation, a Sunday. The bells of the church were ringing, calling to the freezing faithful who would arrive all wrapped up from head to toe to shelter themselves from the strong wind and the thermometer marking -20 °.

Among down jackets, caps, furs and earmuffs, a young man with two eyes as blue as the sky at high altitude and the physique of an athlete, to say the least, was wearing with a look of great ease only jeans and a sweater. It was hard not to notice. He sat next to Daniela. They exchanged the sign of peace.

Like a lightning strike, it was love at first sight, and the beginning of the dream. Love was born between the young interpreter at the headquarters of a bank in Verona, and Franz Kraler, the heir of a family of South-Tyrolean entrepreneurs with roots in the Austro-Hungarian nobility. The greatest love.

THE ELEGANCE IN THE DNA

THE ELEGANCE IN THE DNA

"Old and new friends, collaborators who support me in the daily routine and even the clothes that I place in the windows: I pick by instinct. This is a dominant aspect of my being and plays a decisive part in my interpersonal relationships.”

Could it have been any different with her husband?

"We were engaged for two years because I needed to think carefully about my choice: to marry Franz I had to change everything, not only the city, but also my job; however, love was stronger than any hesitation. With him I would have gone to live on top of the Everest, so, having settled on that, I decided to go to Dobbiaco. However, it was a question of figuring out where to start in order to implement our dream: to create an activity that would bond us forever, to express our common passion for beautiful things ... "

"WE CHOOSE FASHION"

And what fashion! At Franz Kraler you can find only the best out of more than 200 international brands, with clothes and accessories for men, women and children.

“Dobbiaco is a town of three thousand or so and opening a business with luxury products was a risk. But the good thing, then and now, was a scarcity of clothing stores and no high-end boutiques.

Therefore, there was zero competition. Another not negligible positive aspect is that many valleys converge here, and with them many villages too.

Plus, there is the landscape, with the Dolomites in the background, the ideal setting for those who, like us, are looking for uniqueness ". Even in the panorama.

1986

THE FIRST STORE OPENS IN DOBBIACO

“We were young, in love, and with a great desire to take action. We began to test the waters, visiting fashion houses and showrooms, talking with friends, acquaintances, and fashion experts. We threw ourselves fully into it”.

It was 1986. The palace of the Kraler family, 'the Castle' as the locals still call it today, changed its face for the first time and hosted our first twelve store windows on the ground floor ".

Casa Kraler, acquired in 1978, was built in 1903 as an annex of the Grand Hotel Dobbiaco, the summer residence of the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph. During the renovation and expansion works, in the stables, they found sketches of some dresses made for Elizabeth of Wittelsbach, Duchess of Bavaria, and Princess Sissi in the famous trilogy.

IT WAS A DEEP EMOTION

“We ended up with those artfully crafted drawings in your hands, accurate in the strokes, and painted with love and devotion by whomever. They will allow us, sooner or later, to make an exhibition”.

The location, today, is more suitable than ever, for the geographical position, and the Tre Cime di Lavaredo which are reflected in the shop windows.

Perfectly included in the territory, Franz Kraler boutique is a bridge of harmoniously lived emotions between the past and the future with an innate and exceedingly rare inclination to hospitality.

Alexander Kraler, son of founders Franz and Daniela, took the baton of the family business.

Alexander Kraler, born in 1989, graduated in tourism marketing with a thesis on the Alto Adige Region, “a tourism destination and vital territory”.

The MBA in luxury retail from a German University allowed Alexander to apply his skills to the family business. By using new technologies and managerial know-how, he has been able to bring the company to the digital turning point, projecting it into the 3.0 era.

THE FIRST STORE OPENS IN CORTINA

Totally different in concept, but perfectly identical in the mission of luxury pampering, the multi-brand store opened in Cortina d'Ampezzo in August 2004 at Corso Italia 107. Furnished like the interior of a warm and welcoming Cortina villa, the store uses natural materials and stone and wood floors from materials recovered from barns and old abandoned shelters. Additionally, the boutique overlooks the plaza/lounge of the most exclusive holiday resort in the Dolomites. Over the years, with its numerous installations, the area has been the site of unique and unforgettable events.

in the heart of the dolomites

Behind the forty-one brightly lit showcase windows, illuminated even at night with low-energy consumption-colored LEDs, visitors can enjoy shopping in a welcoming environment: this includes the privée with a fireplace and annexed tea-room and the nursery space containing stuffed animals, a 3-D screen for animated movies, and toy cars. Additionally, the store has a bar with the stube (Tyrolean wood stove) always on. They also provide an area specifically designed for persons with disabilities. Garments range from slight-cashmere or fresh-linen kimono in winter or summer available in the changing rooms together with logo slippers. At the grand welcoming terrace there is even room for pets and a water bowl reserved to them. Smokers are invited to use retractable ashtrays inserted in the wrought-iron railings.

“Our mission is to put at ease anyone who enters, but also to seek and propose what we like without half measures. Our customers, who are all important to us without any distinction between famous and ordinary, have understood this. And here, they feel at home”.

Some come by car and easily find an available parking spot. Others may prefer the helicopter. Even in this case, far from rare, landing in front of the store is part of the house specialties.

On the top floor, under a glass roof, there is the elegant and welcoming Kraler apartment.

“It is not a guesthouse achieved from an attic for sheer convenience. It is an integral part of our lifestyle that does not include divisions between work and private life. We are engaged in our business for twelve hours, but in the evening, we want to feel as though we are on vacation and see, above us, the sky and our mountains. This allows us to regenerate, day after day, at every sunrise”.

Franz Kraler celebrates 10 years of activity in Cortina with a radical renovation of the renowned headquarters in Corso Italia 107: a conceptual store that renounces the formal and cultural criteria of tradition but projects itself into the future by setting up a multimedia plaza in the outdoor area with a self-managed satellite communications system.

Inside, in a unique setting, we find an art gallery and a theater with a stage where clothes and accessories from the most important brands enter the scene. Everything moves accordingly: lights, sets, installation, to present what we believe in, living the dream that accompanies life every day.

HERITAGE AND INNOVATION ... A NEW STYLE ADVENTURE

On the 5th of December 2015, the new Franz Kraler space was inaugurated in Corso Italia 92, at the base of the Hotel Cortina’s building.

It showcases seven windows in the most central and prestigious position of the shopping street par excellence.

The environment is laid out in a sophisticated balance between retro elements and hi-tech technologies: there are luminous glass shelves which enhance the materials used, such as natural oak wood, lacquered pine, and leather.

There is a feeling of uniqueness, elegance, exclusivity, a microcosm where reality and desire mix, precious memories and revelations, evidence of ancient knowledge, and hints of evolving worlds".

"It shows yet another challenge and a great personal and professional commitment to relaunch the image of Cortina d'Ampezzo thanks to enlightened entrepreneurship, capable of promoting the more contemporary aspects of modern culture while preserving traditions that elsewhere have disappeared over time".

THE CASTLE OF DOBBIACO

UNSTOPPABLE CENTER OF GRAVITY
UNSTOPPABLE CENTER OF GRAVITY
UNSTOPPABLE CENTER OF GRAVITY

UNSTOPPABLE CENTER OF GRAVITY

The Kralers, an inexhaustible source of ideas and projects, once again amaze and excite the castle of light that dominates Dobbiaco by turning it into the Fashion center of gravity of the entire Northeast.

In fact, the Kralers do not aim just for the purchasing satisfaction; a visit to the luxury store in Dobbiaco is a shopping experience that turns into a true sensorial and artistic experience.

Once again, the Kraler family has translated the macrocosm of fashion into an unparalleled art and design location, a boutique that will immediately become a reference point for anyone looking for the exclusivity of the most important international brands.

A STUNNING AND UNEXPECTED CONTEMPORARY PLACE

This is the gravitational center of a unique world, permeated by the desire to combine ideas, art and trends. A location that aspires to be an exclusive stage for fashion shows, cultural events, exhibitions, cooking-shows or design events.

This way the fashion hub is expanding, becoming the hub of culture as well. The choice of a compatible architecture integrated into nature, almost entirely self-sufficient in terms of energy and consumption, is not surprising. It is a way to immerse yourself in the future while holding firmly to the past. You may find yourself between ancient royal stables and architectural experiments that are like a haute-couture dress, specially sewn on the personality of Daniela, Franz and Alexander by the mastery of the architects Andrea and Luca Marastoni , proven adventure companions of all their creative flashes.

Here, fashion interacts with the territory and aims for tomorrow. Two underground floors, perfectly hidden, capture the sunlight through a long window and a gold leaf wall, to represent the preciousness of what the Kralers keep inside their romantic alcove. Multifunctional since its beginnings, the extension of Via Dolomiti 46 believes in people and ideas and, like a cave, recalls the more reserved profile of the Kralers, the one that speaks of sincerity, kindness, and commitment.

The architectural composition confirms Franz and Daniela's genius in decoding the sphere of fashion and art in the broad sense, expanding the concept of the shopping experience even outside of the boutique. It is changing constantly, with creativity and refinement: anticipating is what most distinguishes them, waiting to know what they have in store for tomorrow.

Eco-compatibility becomes a vital necessity, with energy saving systems such as cutting-edge insulators, structures made with typical local materials, and the adoption of modular and versatile construction systems.

The construction underground recalls the cave, the ancestral desire to shelter from the cold and protect ourselves without being seen and this is our goal; our energy comes from the earth by adopting a geothermal system that allows us to use the temperature differences to produce heat or cooling at zero cost!

Respect for the environment and the surrounding architecture point out the respect for everything around us; we believe that if there were more respect and awareness of our values, everyone's life would be better. Not to desire for more, but to grant everyone a better life, for everyone to be proud of what they have.

FK Uomo in corso italia 76

A three-story building dedicated to men's fashion, in Corso Italia 76, overlooks Piazza della Conchiglia, the beating heart of the city center.

Not only do they have Loro Piana, Cucinelli, Kiton, brands that belong to the classic sartorial tradition, but also Gucci, Saint Laurent, Valentino, and Balmain can all be found inside this important architectural structure to answer the need of enhancing luxury.

The living room with a fireplace area on the upper floor is a space dedicated to conversation and where clients can relax.

On the walls the works of photographer Antonio Guccione stand out. They are dedicated to three great stylists who have disappeared: Versace, Moschino, and Ferrè. The feeling is one of a men's luxury atelier, underlined by those photographic images that welcome guests as they enter. Once inside, they embark on a journey into exclusivity, in that man-space made not only of clothes, but also of a concept that starts from afar. It is Franz and Daniela's deep knowledge of the rules of luxury and what the customer wishes, that makes the essence of beauty and glamor tangible.

CORTINA K PERSPECTIVE

THE NEW LUXURY MOSAIC

Franz Kraler in Cortina, Corso Italia 119, is the first luxury department store in the Dolomites; a perfect shop combining dedicated corners and lounges in which to best present the collections of each season. Refined and versatile, it is laid out on two floors, with an area dedicated to men's wear on the first basement level, and the best of the women's collections on the ground floor. On the raised floor, the large windows overlook the square facing the Boutique and offer the fantastic view of the entire Corso up to the church steeple.

Heading north, opposite the Basilica of San Filippo and Giacomo, at Corso Italia 76, you encounter the first Franz Kraler store in Cortina. Here, since December 2020, Kraler has hosted the first Louis Vuitton boutique in the Italian Alps. In an elegant and contemporary space set with vintage furnishings and works of art, the Maison presents its Women's and Men's collection of bags, accessories, clothing, shoes, jewelry, watches, fragrances and iconic travel sets.

On Corso Italia 92, Franz Kraler for Children is located at the base of the Hotel Cortina’s building. Further up at #107, the new experimental design concept of the historic space has become the unique setting of Maison Dior.

Corso Italia in Cortina is undoubtedly the reference point of the Italian VIP scene: for this reason, the dream was to stitch-up the urban fabric with a series of stores offering the customers a journey; a shopping experience reaching beyond the basic purchase process. The search was on for a story of care and attention to the customer in the name of professionalism, sentiment, tradition, and a sense of belonging. All this to be achieved by restructuring relatively new buildings, giving them a unique high-level character and a soul. This would offer the perfect scenery for the most important Maisons in the world.

cortina grows

It changes, it transforms. With geographical and temporal punctuality, the Kralers, this is how this family so united in terms of affection and enterprise is known, have added another piece to their precious luxury mosaic. Along Corso Italia, today a constellation of FK’s tells a story of courage and efficiency, but above all a story of taste and passion, the result of a rewarding strategy that focuses on the territory and on the customer, who is always at the top of Franz, Daniela, and Alexander’s choices.

The Corso Italia multi-brand store dedicated to women, accessories for women, children, and men, represents a sort of cathedral of luxury, a ritual that brings back the purchase experience to "touch the garments" rather than to merely "touch the screen".

The Kralers bring the shops back to the territory, giving value to the rituality of shopping, made up of people who understand, welcome, and stimulate.

NEW SPACE FOR MEN IN CORSO ITALIA 111

Following the new partnership with the famous Louis Vuitton fashion house, the men's clothing and accessories collections find their ideal setting at Corso Italia 111. There we find an environment with warm tones dedicated to tailoring lines but also to the most avant-garde items on the scene.

There is also international fashion on the floor below the women's collections. Men’s and Women’s proposals recompose the mosaic of luxury in a dialogue of proximity within a single building dedicated to fashion and luxury.

A NEW LUXURY MULTIBRAND STORE IN THE CENTER OF BOLZANO

Time, in fashion, is crueler than in other sectors, imposing a fast pace without ever allowing time to rest. Habit is an enemy to fight, and novelty requires a spirit of sacrifice!

There is no pandemic, there is no time for reflection… the show must go on, and the Kraler family, of historic multi-brand store fame in Dobbiaco and Cortina, faithful to its rules, restructures and renovates the store in Bolzano.

A new luxury shopping destination: the store is located at #4 in via Leonardo da Vinci, just outside the historic center.

A new luxury shopping destination, the store in Bolzano is located at number 4 in via Leonardo da Vinci, just outside the historic center. The store features a sober, linear style, dominated by soft colors and lots of light. There is also a contemporary art gallery whose centerpieces are the garments of the most important international fashion brands collections, specially chosen and selected by Daniela Kraler.

The space is divided into three distinct levels in order to allow an organic distribution of the clothes and distinction with accessories and footwear. Upon entering you can easily identify the area with the items you are looking for, allowing you to quickly locate the items of your dreams. To understand all that each area has to offer, we recommend you visit them all!

Now Bolzano shines under the spotlight with an unprecedented proposal, linked to the world of luxury.

A challenge for the Kraler family who aspires not only to become a point of reference for anyone seeking the exclusivity of international brands, but also to feed the artistic/cultural fabric of the city, combining ideas, art, and trends.

LA GIOCONDA POP UP

2023

NEW OPENING

Glamour, luxury and the art of hospitality in the beating heart of Bolzano: Palais Campofranco is home to the new boutique of the cosmopolitan Franz Kraler brand, which brings the luxury of the big names of international fashion to the city.

The building, at Via Della Mostra 1, corner of Piazza Walther, is part of the project to redevelop a corner of Bolzano's historic centre

The Kraler family's challenge to the world of luxury continues in the city capital with a store covering an area of 150 square metres, housed on the ground floor of the famous building built in 1300, which belonged to the Habsburgs of Lorraine and is now owned by Count Georg von Kuenburg. A bond that the Kralers continue to cultivate with the tradition and history of the area after the redevelopment of Emperor Franz Joseph's stables in Dobbiaco, home of the "fashion castle" and their headquarters.

The spaces, redesigned by the Marastoni studio of Bolzano, which house the collections of Gucci, Fendi, Valentino, Christian Louboutin - to name but a few - boast an ultra-modern layout, with the inclusion of a digital backdrop with a large arched opening at the back. Hidden at the back, a 100-inch high-definition monitor for projecting themed films completes the 'perspective deception' by capturing the customer's imagination and expanding the size of the display space.

The monochrome of the walls and furnishings is interrupted by a dramatic carpet that cuts across the floor. Decisive, finally, is the chiaroscuro play that is created in the room thanks to a careful study by the Via Bizzuno technical office: the light has been carefully hidden in the false ceiling and in the side niches and emphasises, with precision, the display areas and accentuates the shadow zones of the arches to increase the perspective.
